About Us

We are Unifor Local 87-M.

Originally formed as a newspaper guild in the 1930s and '40s, we have grown to represent 1,800 workers across Southern Ontario in a growing number of sectors including journalism, broadcasting, audio-visual, education and not-for-profit.

Our members work at places such as the Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Toronto Sun, Sing Tao, Maclean's magazine, The London Free Press, CTV, the House of Commons, EC Toronto, the Mabin School, the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants and many more.

We are a local of Unifor, Canada’s largest private-sector union representing more than 300,000 workers in every major sector of Canada’s economy, including 12,000 in media. Unifor was formed in 2013 through members of our predecessor unions, CAW and CEP, voting to merge together.
