Unifor 87-M members from Globe, Star, Sun snag National Newspaper Awards

Unifor 87-M is very proud of all of our members who picked up National Newspaper Awards (NNAs) on May 5.
 

At a Gala ceremony in Toronto, Unifor 87-M members at the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and Toronto Sun picked up awards for excellence in print journalism.

The Globe was by far the biggest winner, picking up 11 awards that night.
 

Mark McKinnon was named Journalist of the Year, for reporting on world events.
 

As described in a statement by the NNAs, MacKinnon’s work “weaved a narrative that details the interdependence of world events today – in Europe, the United States, Russia, Turkey and the rest of the Muslim world. The result was “an incredible piece of writing that combines context with storytelling and dogged reporting.”
 

The Globe also won in categories such as beat reporting, sports, investigations and politics.
 

The Toronto Star won awards for Best Entertainment Reporting for Murray White’s feature on Wanda Nanibush, first-ever curator of Canadian and Indigenous Art at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and Lucas Oleniuk won the award for Best Sports Photo with a shot of Olympians at the finish line.

Also in the photo category, the Toronto Sun’s Stan Behal won for Best News Photo for his image of a grieving father.
